Momentary Bliss

Tony DeLorger © 2016

Its a tremor, a building rhythmic shudder when she's close,
arching back, clutching sheets, sweat and goosebumps,
blood surging, like a winding river pounding rocks and shore,
closer and closer to that open sea release,
and then muscles seize, lock, as the moment fast approaches,
and then breath is held, body ridged, eyes closed.

The release is overwhelming, a warm fizzing flood ascending the spine,
until mind, world and consciousness explode into space,
a supernova in spectacular colors, silence colliding
with a sigh of afferent joy, barely audible,
and then a silent flight, soaring, freedom, beauty's lasting swell,
and as the saturation gently eases, like a slow ebbing shore,
the body settles, muscles relax, as the mind ascends,
and sleep beckons the drift to clouds of softest down.
