The
core of most religions practiced today, give us basic values and a
set of rules to live a moral, productive and respectful life. Much of
the differences between religions are based on culture and stories of
individual prophets experiences and lives, which are of course
governed by historic time and place. What happened two thousand years
ago bears no real relevance to today and those aspects of holy text
reveal only the attitudes and feelings of the time.
In
reading the Bible, Koran, Torah, or any holy text, once must relate
to and understand the traditions and practices of the time, not just
take literal meaning from the words expressed. Often the meanings of
phrases terms and places were far different than translated as we
understand them, and all texts, because of their age, can be so
easily misinterpreted. Interpretation is then a contentious issue.
The
problem remains that those with darkness in their heart can read into
holy text what they want, see answers to their frustrations and take
positive expression and turn them into their own dark aspirations.
This is not religion working, it's the minds of imbalanced souls
manipulating religion to fit into their poor thinking and to
manipulate to justify their actions. Terrorism is a prime example.
The
good in religion has been tainted for centuries by theses kinds of
people, ready to exploit and manipulate in the name of God, and to
justify their twisted ideals and fanaticism for their own benefit. It
is a shame that the religion itself has to bear the brunt of these
acts of irreligious anarchy.
Terrorism
is not about religion at all, simply the expression of evil souls who
prey upon any contention to express their own rage.
